Let me just get one rib…

GMail

This GMail craze has gotten out of control. People bidding on ebay for gmail invitations. Websites built solely for the purpose of swapping something for a gmail account. This is the same silliness that happened back in the Internet bubble days. Everyone jumping on something that is just so ordinary - an email account - with 1GB of storage, yay!, that can already be gotten at Spymac. So why isn't Spymac getting flooded?
I'll tell you why. Because I want a gmail account too, dammit. And because I can't have one, and because it's so difficult for me to get one, I want one even more now! How do I know it's gotten so crazy? Because I'm the one crazy enough to bid on ebay for one (one dollar albeit, but I still bid). I'm the one spending time thinking of something good to swap on gmailswap.com. WTF? I already have a spymac account so I can receive 1 GB of email. But it's so lonely over at Spymac. Nobody wants Spymac, they want GMail. And I want to be where the cool kids are.
So give me a gmail invite. please. please please please.

Funny Funny

I find it impressive how some people can constantly update their blog several times a day or even once a day. It really does take a lot of energy and thought and time to write down your thoughts and expound on the origins or the greater meanings of those thoughts. SO... until I have more time, mostly after my wedding, you will only see one post a week or so. Except during my honeymoon, where you will see none.
This week has been an improv week. Tuesday I had my first show of my Level 3A class and it turned out ok. Not as funny as my Level 1 or Level 2 class shows - there was something in the air this Tuesday that was holding people back. It might have been the lack of any cold air - AC was busted and it was so friggin hot. It may have been just a pure lack of energy - I could feel it warming up doing "Hotspot" - a game where a player jumps in the middle of the circle, sings a song, and other players just need to tag them out with whatever song they think of next. It was slow, and people were slow to tag out - myself included - so I think the brains were just not functioning.
I was in the first group and we warmed up a little more beforehand. That had me feeling better, plus we had a decent size crowd so that always brings some energy. We had a good start with our initiations, really good monologues with some interesting facts. My first scene turned out to be a execution-gone-wrong scene. I was being electrocuted, but not successfully, by this inept officer who was having "moral issues". It turned out to be a decent game - one problem was I was failing to listen to him to pick up on other stuff he was saying. I know he was having deeper issues than just "moral issues" but I blanked out and went into my head so all I heard was my blabbering. I think it worked out ok and we basically had a decent game going.

I’ve got friends in New Orleans

*** this story is from a few weeks back but it's timeless.
I was surfing around the ImaginAsianTV.com because I'm semi-obsessed with how I can help them and I'm just trying to keep track of what they are up to in preparation for their launch. Which I will be a part of, dammit. Also, I recently filmed a promo for their channel which would be shown at a "media conference" soon - so not knowing the name, I was keen on finding out when my mug would be displayed for millions of adoring fans. Or investors with deep pockets, whichever.
So on the side bar was a little advertisement for some what I deemed to be a "dinky" conference. It was a small lil square that said, "Come see us at booth #4782* at NCTA*". At the same time, there was an announcement that they would be at a media conference in LA which I assumed was gonna be huge since they would be doing casting and such for my West Siiiiiide rivals.
Cut to - Anthony gets a call from his friend Aric.

Aric
Hey, want me to say hi to ImaginAsian?
Anthony
(brief silence, with a side of confusion)
um....huh?
Aric
I'm down in New Orleans for a conference and they have a booth here.
Anthony
Oh really? for NACTA*?
(banter and more banter about how best to start the conversation with the IA folks... our conversation ends)

interesting....So it turns out this NCTA* conference is for real, with big corporate vendors that sound similar to Sisco, Moter Hola, and assorted cable stations (not gonna get me you copyright nazis!). And my buddy, now on a recon mission, enters the fray to get the dish on IA.
tick tick tick... hour or so goes by. ring ring.

Take Two

Uma
You should see her fight scene in this outfit

So, before it gets too stale in my mind - I need to write my review of Kill Bill Vol. 2.
I thought it was an improvement over the first film. As a movie, it was certainly a good movie, very Quentin Tarantino. I understand why people herald these movies as the return of Q. I didn't necessarily see it in the first volume, but this volume was clearly a well-told story by one of our generation's unique storytellers. It probably helped that it was summing up a lot of things from the first volume, but all the things I held against the first volume were forgiven by the second film. I still think that the first volume was too long and drawn out and could have been summed up in shorter segments. Likewise, the second movie had some drawn out moments and I gladly would've sat through a longer, single film than paid double the price to see two movies. His story could've held viewers captive - with more concise pieces for the normal movie goer but still keeping poetic verbal dances for the Tarantino fan.
This volume also did a better job of emulating what I know as the "Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu" special. Get to that in a second. The movie had lots of great scenes. Humor came naturally from these characters that clearly live a different life than ordinary people but still have ordinary issues, like revenge, regret, a sense of honor. The physical action was still there, but not as gratuitous and outrageous as the first movie, which allows one to appreciate the hardwork these stunt people as well as the actors put into the scene in the first place. And the camera work, especially the training sequence, was great. Just recreating that feel of the saturday afternoon special drew me back into the film and I truly wanted to see another whole volume dedicated to just that aspect.
**** like many a class in college, incomplete... ****
