It was bound to happen…

Of course, sooner or later, my posts were going to be about deals. Not for your benefit, no no no, why would I do that? I'm posting it here so I'll have someplace to come back to forever and ever to see the deal. Why have PC based bookmarks, when I can put all the deal information here? Blah blah, anyways:
Just booked a car in Hawaii using Budget. Got 20% off using this code: U010736 but the catch is, you have to pay with a Mastercard. Not sure how long this code will last but I will update this post if it expires. or if one of my faithful readers like boo@bee.com or Da KrZy AZN notifies me that the code sux.
Also found this website with all these discount codes for car rentals: try them all and pick the cheapest one! The DIGITS!!!

Amazin Grace

AR5
I can't BELIEVE she's a LAWYER?!?!!?

So it took about 4 seasons for my sister to convince me to start watching Amazing Race and now I'm finally watching this season. It's pretty awesome. I'm not drawn to it like some Tier 1, must-watch shows, but it's still fun to watch these people do all these various tasks. I think that I would totally kick ass on this show. The question is, who is a worthy partner for my asskickinness?
I missed it this week so thank goodness for Saturday reruns. I'm writing this as the episode is going on - and much to my dismay, while getting the stupid picture to the upper left, I popped up the website and saw that old dude and daughter lost. AARGH! Oh well, I'll continue to watch, just for the wacky blond and her traveling sidecar person.

Had an interesting dream last night. My sister is preggers and I dreamt my sister was having a girl. It was still 5 months before the due date but we were at some official office and my sister was picking up a printout. Seems she found out the sex of her baby already and wanted to name her before anyone else took the name. The name was some kind of -ia name, like Constantia or something like that. What a Constantia is - well, derived from the English word constant or consonant no doubt.

Philharmonic In The Park

Last night, I went to the philharmonic in the park with some friends. It wasn't looking to good prior to the concert because there were many a forecasts of rain, both during the day and the evening. There was a bit of rain in the morning but it turned out to be a sunny day - enough to dry the center of the Great Lawn, where the concert was. So we decided to go - definitely worth it.
I thought it would be packed but there was plenty of space, even with people spread out with their picnic blankets and elaborate spreads. Some people not only had folding chairs, but they also had folding tables, plus several bottles of wine to boot, plus citronella candles (wise idea), etc. Last time I saw the NY Philharmonic for one of these concerts in the Park - it was in Westchester and we brought KFC. So of course, this time, I couldn't break tradition - KFC baby. You know why I brought it? Because if anyone else had brought KFC, I would've been smelling it and I would've been craving it all night. So I basically out-maneuvered everyone by bringing KFC. Brilliant. I know.

Mendelssohn
Mendelssohn
not present...

Anyways, we set up way back but were in direct line of the speakers so I thought we would be able to hear ok. They didn't have the sound turned up on those speakers so only the louder parts of the pieces came through the speakers and back to us. Plus there were people chatting it up around us and everywhere - no big deal but it would've been nice to hear more of the music. I did try to listen as much as possible though - Philharmonic played Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, which was instantly recognizable but still awesome every time.
After the concert, fireworks immediately followed sponsored by Grucci. We were in an awful position, blocked wholly by a tree, so we would see these sparks explode behind the branches of this enormous tree. It was still nice but that tree could've not been there for the 10 minute fireworks display. It was short too - if you didn't gather that from the 10-minute comment. I guess coming off July 4th fireworks, it didn't compare, but I guess it ain't July 4th and times are tough at AOL/TW (the sponsor for the evening).
So lessons learned for next year, if I don't move to Virginia by then (*sniff*):

  • bring more wine

  • bring picnic food
  • chairs/tables are cool
  • 2 hours early is plenty to get a good seat
  • bring candles if you want to see at night/flashlights if you want to walk around - like to the bathroom
  • fireworks go off over the lake on the south side of the lawn so sit towards the center/west side to avoid the huge tree on the SE side of the lawn
These are more notes for myself but you may use them too because I like you.

Harold and Kumar Go To The Movies

    John Cho
    harold but not kumar...

Had a grand ole evening tonight. I volunteered for the Asian American International Film Festival this evening at the new Imaginasian TV movie theater called, YES you guessed it!, The Imaginasian. It's this movie theater on 59th street between 2nd and 3rd that Imaginasian hopes to use for Asian programming, including movies, and sports events, etc. I thought it would be much larger but it was a fairly small space. One theater, a small lobby area but big enough for a concession stand and everything. It was nice but I'm still not sure how they are going to do the 'cafe' and all the other stuff they want to do in there. But I wish them luck.
Anyways, I worked the 3:30-7:30pm shift, which I thought would be a fairly in demand shift. The reason being the premiere of Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle was being presented at 7-9pm with a press conference with the stars preceding. So I got there and everything was relatively uneventful. It was my first time volunteering and my first time to the space so I had no idea was I was doing. I just sort of stood around and somehow found myself guarding the ticket entry, which was inside the theater just past the concession stand. And I was answering people's questions even though I had no idea what was going on.
But the first 2 hours or so were pretty uneventful, just guided people into the theater - the ONE theater, so it was pretty easy. Then we started getting ready for the big rush of John Cho and Kal Penn and all the press, etc. I don't think anyone anticipated the rush of people we were about to face but I think we were probably as prepared as we possibly could have been.
So the show prior finishes and we clear everyone out of the theater. When all is empty in the theater, we let the press in - probably about 40 people or so. Actually, my friend Natalie was one of the "press", which was pretty cool. I didn't think she was any type of 'press' but who knows. Anyways, she was there. Then we were able to bring in John and Kal. Since I started working the entrance, I had a nice spot to see them come in and welcome them. So they started coming in, and as they passed, I just gave them the ole 'wassup' - and got a 'wassup' back. They seemed like really nice, ordinary dudes. John Cho was a lot taller than I thought - not extremely tall - but probably taller than 6 feet, definitely taller than 6 with the spiky hair.
