constantine
Probably a little late to start writing out a movie review right now but I went to see Constantine tonight with two buddies. It was pretty good - not fantastic. I haven't gone to the movies and actually paid full price in a long time and this was a decent one to go back to. I had some trouble following the story but I can attribute that to randomly occurring blackouts by yours truly. Not sure where my mind wandered but don't wander too far because you might miss what is going on in Constantine.
The effects were pretty cool. Combination of a variety of tricks used in other movies but it all worked and was entertaining while continuing to tell the story. Best character was the devil himself. At first, I thought the guy was a little quirky and oafish but as he got further into the scene, you could really see how he could be the main baddie down there. Cuz he's a little nutty... Hell is full of nuts. Yeah, just a bunch of silly heads.
Came home, caught up on Boston Legal. Love that show. Two episodes ago hit home particularly strongly. It was about Alan getting hit by some dude at a bar and instead of retaliating himself, he goes over to a few guys and offers them money to knock this guy out. While I personally have never done this, there are times when I wish I would. Maybe I won megamillions... let me check...nope. dammit, and I had a good feeling this time... Anyways, turns out Alan had never been in a fight before and his hiring of thugs possibly suggested a fear/weakness in himself.
Now I've never been in a fight before but sometimes there are times when I wish I was a fighter. I also often wonder if it is some sort of weakness, that I don't immediately feel the primal need to react when attacked. My tactic is more, spin the situation and use the energy towards my own use, rather than my fists. I suppose it's not always a weakness - until someone slaps me silly and calls me Sally. Then I'll be forced to attack, with a "you jerk" and a "i'm going to poo on you". That'll show 'em.
oh well. going to sleep now. go beat some people up in my dreams.
so so sorry
I'm sure all 3 of you who read this blog are incredibly pissed that I haven't updated it in so long. I have a perfectly good reason! And that reason does not involve being trapped in a wooden case for days and days or border chases or alien abduction. No, my life is truly more boring than that. I been traveling, my pretties - and when it's west coast traveling, it's virtually impossible for me to update my website.
Of course, for the meeting, they didn't give us any internet access during the meeting so I couldn't get online at all. AAARGH! And then in the evenings, there were always some sort of event or something to keep me from doing any work or play online. So that's my excuse.
Right now, I'm on a call so I'm going to have to write more later but just wanted to say howdy and let you know I'm probably going to start an Earworm of the Day section - basically, what damn song do I have in my head that I can't get out. Right now, Firehouse "I Need You Now" - most recently used in the Blimpie's (?) commercial. Have a great time with that one. Go.
ugh
sorry, haven't updated in awhile. I'm in San Francisco, and I'm just finding no time to update my blog. damn, i'm tired now.
gotta go to bed. maybe more tomorrow.
bye.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
this is why i have my secret blog…(that I never update anyways)
Remember that whole discussion on whether I should be more catty on my blog and put more opinionated stuff?
Read the following link -
Yahoo! News - Free Expression Can Be Costly When Bloggers Bad-Mouth Jobs - basically it's a rundown of all these people that got laid off or reprimanded for blogging during work or even after work ABOUT work. This is why I basically stay away from talking smack about work or really saying anything that could burn bridges. You want to rant with me? Call me in, take me out to dinner/drinks, whatever. You won't get it in writing. You may not even get it at all. But wouldn't it be worth the steak and 5 drinks to see if you can get it out of me?
grrr… cappuccino
man, i can't sleep. probably because it's basically too early for me to sleep. probably cuz i slept on the plane ride down here to DC. probably cuz I had a cappuccino not more than 3 hours ago. i thought caffeine didn't have an effect on me, but I've been known to be wrong.
so, at least 2 co-workers (maybe more!) know about my website. Hello ORCL! And at least one of them knows that I paid tribute to my company in my last play with an Oracle lanyard, shirt and squeezie ball thrown into the play. I felt I had a duty to promote my company since they have been flexible with my time. If I had a good shot of it, I'd post it here but the pictures came out all blurry. Instead, I have a postcard of various pictures - I made this in Paint Shop and sent it to one of the industry folk that came to our show. I sent it to myself too to see how it turned out and if it's good, I'll send it out to more peeps.
It's pretty sweet actually. I used Amazing Mail (please show up in Google Ads, PLEASE! and people, CLICK ON IT!). It's this awesome service that my friend sent her christmas postcards through. Basically, you can take any picture and make it a postcard. It costs a dollar a postcard, including postage. Which is really not that bad, since postage is already 23 cents. So for 77 cents, I can put together any images I want and send it to whoever I want, without having to invest in 100 copies of that card or whatever. I think it's totally worth. We even used it for our wedding thank you postcards. That way, we could change up the picture on the front. It'll come in handy when I start getting more jobs and I need to update people on a bi-weekly basis with different pictures, etc.
Speaking of pictures, this week, I went to a shoot for a stock photo company, Digital Vision. Basically, the shoot was about American Crowds, so there were like 35 or so people there and we just did random group shots, in casual clothing. Then we all had white shirts on and took various group shots and male-only and female-only shots. It was pretty painless work for decent pay - best part was meeting new people. I met 2 particularly nice people so the work went pretty fast. They had some good experiences and I learned a lot just talking to them. Plus it was fun jokin around with them. You know me - full of jokes. Anyways, I hope to keep in touch with them. That's what this business is, right? Networking. Network network network.
I'll post the pics when/if I get them. Now, off to fill out my profile on Actors Access.
almost the weekend… almost the weekend…
damn, my internet is slow like a fat kid doing hurdles... ( i was gonna say like a dog, but fat kid doing hurdles made more sense to me. it still does )
boy, I am excited for this week to be over. Let me tell you. Not a particularly stressful week but just a lot of work that had to get out of the way and I will be glad when it is gone. like a fat kid doing hurdles. nope, doesn't work here.
this weekend, we're off to DC (please don't break into my house) to hang with the in-laws. sooz' birthday celebration continues with her folks down there, plus we're celebrating her nieces' birthdays so that should be fun. Haven't seen her nephews and nieces in awhile and they dig the cool uncle, and when I say cool uncle, I mean me. maybe it's because they know I am on my way to stardom and they are sucking up. maybe it's because i'm juvenile like them. i think they are sucking up.
then from there, it's off to San Fran for the week - more training, yay. It should be a fun week though. i'll get to see my teammates plus see all the other technologists so it'll be fun. i'm gonna bring poker chips and my bonus check. who's got the big stack now, beeyotch? We also have two free dinners from sponsors, Netscaler and Applimation. Netscaler is even giving out free noise-canceling headphones from Sharper Image to each attendee. Times are GOOD people! Look for it on ebay soon!
that's the week and the next week. oh crap! speaking of that, I have to send a status report to my boss. crap. brb with another update of what i did today! like a fat kid doing hurdles... nope.
Amazing Race Finale

Oh, piss me off more Freddy and Kendra!
I can't believe they won the Amazing Race - pretty tight finish though. Everyone wanted Kris and Jon to win but amazingly, it was just a matter of a few wrong turns and the inability to get a taxi that screwed them (and oh yeah, Chicago is a UNITED HUB... hello!!!!). They were SO close. I can't believe how close it was.
Freddy and Kendra were so whiney, fake, phony. Although Kendra was nice to look at - I guess they both were models. Check that - just looked at Kendra and she starts to look a little scary. Stare long enough, I swear she blinks...
Anyways, the next one didn't look all that interesting - I'm not sure I like the idea of Rob and Amber from Survivor being on it. Although the previews for this Amazing Race didn't look great either, but it turned out to be a good season. No Myrna and Schmyrna but still good. And most importantly, I'm not on it yet so primetime will have to wait yet another season for me.
Free Address Stamper
I picked up a free address stamper through this deal. Well, basically free - I had to pay $3.95 for shipping. But I've been printing out return address labels and I thought this would save me the pain of doing that.
It's not too shabby either. Hope it lasts long.
Wicked
I saw Wicked this evening. I was mildly impressed.
Music was ok - it was a jumble of different songs with no common melody joining the songs together. Voices were ok too. The sets and costumes were incredible. Story - I guess based off a book - so you can't blame these guys but it got a little nutty after awhile. I won't spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet.
Watching it made me think that I would be throwing my money away doing voiceover lessons (oh, didn't post that yet - will do tomorrow). But tomorrow, I will cancel the voiceover lessons. Although it might make me money, it's not my passion. I could spend that money elsewhere - like voice lessons and dance lessons, and improv.
ok, nighty night time.
someone watches more tv than cal
The Futon Critic ranked his 50 Best Episodes of 2004. I haven't seen most of the shows in the top 10, but Lost appears twice, including the top spot. And a well-deserved episode too. That episode was incredible, holding my attention the whole time. Lost has the knack for that though, lately. I hope it doesn't fall into a pattern of predictability though. The pattern of a twist can also get predictable - much like I used to expect twists at the end of every episode of "The Practice."
Sometimes, it just has to happen like it's supposed to happen - "24" does that a lot. you think something can't happen cuz it's tv land and all must resolve nicely, but, WHAM, it happens. that's why "24" keeps your attention. at least, my attention.
